Duties and responsibilities: One of the most important
activities of a Border Patrol agent is line watch. This involves the detection,
prevention and apprehension of terrorists, undocumented aliens and smugglers of
aliens at or near the land border by maintaining surveillance from a covert
position, following up leads, responding to electronic sensor television
systems, aircraft sightings, and interpreting and following tracks, marks and
other physical evidence.
Salary: Entry-level Border Patrol recruits earn between
$36,000 and $46,000 in their first year, with the potential of earning up to
$70,000 per year within three years of service
Education: You must be a United States citizen.
You must possess a valid automobile driver's license.
You must take and pass the CBP Border Patrol entrance
examination. The CBP Border Patrol entrance examination is a three-part test
that covers logical reasoning skill; the Spanish language or, if you don't
speak Spanish, an artificial language test that predicts your ability to learn
Spanish; and an assessment of job-related experiences and achievements.
